Fran DeWine, the wife of U.S. Senator Mike
DeWine, visited with about a dozen local residents July 20 at the
Hometown Restaurant in Woodsfield.
Over iced tea and freshly made peach cobbler, the
senator's wife listened to conversation about local and national issues.
Becky Sims of Beck Energy shared that Monroe county
leads the state with the highest number of oil and gas wells being
drilled.

Relay For Life
Slated for July 21, 22 at County Fairgrounds

County Relay For Life, the major
fundraiser for the
American Cancer Society, is set for July 21 and 22 at
the Monroe County Fairgrounds. This photo was taken at the 2005 Relay as the
teams made their first laps carrying their banners. Notice the luminaries
lining the path. The luminary service, honoring cancer survivors and
remembering those whose lives were taken by cancer, will be held at dark.

The American Cancer Society, the nation's leading
voluntary health organization, will hold its 6th
annual Relay for Life of Monroe County event at the
Monroe County Fairgrounds in Woodsfield, beginning on
Fri, July 21, at 5:30 p.m., and ending on Sat., July
22, at 11 a.m.
"We have approximately 14 teams this year and we hope
to raise over $60,000," said event co-chair, Pat
McDougal. The monies raised from this event will go
toward the American Cancer Society's research,
education, advocacy and patient service programs.
